Summer Sonic 2026 is officially making history as the festival’s biggest edition yet. Celebrating 25 years, the legendary event expands to a massive three-day format for the first time ever. From August 14 to 16, Creativeman Productions takes over Tokyo (ZOZO Marine Stadium and Makuhari Messe) and Osaka (Expo ’70 Commemorative Park) for an unforgettable weekend of music.
Three-day passes have already completely sold out, but you can still grab single-day tickets for Tokyo if you act fast. Here’s everything you need to know.
What Makes This Year Different
Since 2000, the two-day Summer Sonic festival has split its fast-paced lineup between Tokyo and Osaka. For its 25th anniversary in 2026, the event expands to a three-day format, Friday to Sunday. Headliners will now rotate between cities, giving each location a unique daily lineup.
To help you plan, Tokyo gates open at 9:00 AM, while Osaka gates open at 10:00 AM. Main stages in both cities run until 9:30 PM. Additionally, Tokyo will host ‘Midnight Sonic,’ an after-hours club stage running into the early morning. This includes the DIM MAK: 30 Harajuku Rave Club set on August 8, which requires attendees to be at least 20 years old.

The Historic 25th-Year Lineup
The Summer Sonic 2026 lineup is the festival’s largest yet, headlined by rock legends The Strokes, J-rock icons L’Arc-en-Ciel (making their festival debut), and powerhouse vocalist Ado.
Rotating between Tokyo and Osaka from August 14 to 16, the genre-spanning bill also features global pop stars like JENNIE, FKA twigs, David Byrne, and Steve Lacy, alt-rock giants Suede and Kasabian, and top Asian acts LE SSERAFIM, BABYMONSTER, AKMU, SB19, and BINI.
BABYMETAL have also curated a special heavy metal stage featuring synth-rock acts like Pendulum and The Warning.

Ticket Status: What’s Actually Still Available
Good news first: plenty of Summer Sonic Japan tickets are still up for grabs. Summer Sonic tickets come in four tiers per city: 1-Day, 3-Day, Platinum 1-Day, and Platinum 3-Day. Platinum gets you exclusive viewing areas, private lounges, cloakroom access, and dedicated merch lanes.

How to Buy Summer Sonic Tickets
If you’re an international fan, you should use the English ticketing pages on eplus or AXS, as domestic platforms require a Japanese phone number for SMS verification. Summer Sonic uses a ‘Smart Ticket’ system requiring a face photo and companion registration before activation. Upon arrival on the event day, staff will swap your digital ticket for an access wristband.
Only tickets from authorized channels guarantee entry; unauthorized resales via platforms like Viagogo are risky due to Japan’s strict anti-scalping laws. Stick to the official Summer Sonic ticket page and the platforms mentioned above. Note that while AXS Osaka has single-day tickets available, AXS Tokyo currently lists them as ‘available soon.’ For early barricade access, you can enter the lottery for a ¥3,500 daily ‘Morning First Numbered Ticket’ on the official portal.
First-Timer Survival Tips
August in Chiba and Osaka brings serious heat and humidity. Pack strong sunscreen, a handheld fan, and a refillable water bottle. Load an IC card like Suica or Pasmo for food stalls inside the venue. Bring cash too, since merch booths and smaller vendors often run cash-only.
For Tokyo, take the JR Keiyo Line to Kaihin-Makuhari Station, about 40 minutes from Tokyo Station. For Osaka, take the Osaka Monorail to Bampaku-Kinen-Koen Station, right at Expo ’70 Park. Trains fill up fast on show days, so build in extra time.
