Spanish luxury brand LOEWE moved its first large-scale exhibition, “Crafted World”, to Tokyo this spring.
The exhibition is a creative collaboration between LOEWE and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), which combines the brand’s 179-year history of creativity and craft innovation with the most groundbreaking 21st century architectural design.
The LOEWE “Crafted World” made its debut in Shanghai in 2024, and it’s making its way to Japan. The exhibition will open in Harajuku, Tokyo from March 29 to May 11, 2025.
A History of Craft and Innovation
Get to know the history of LOEWE through its “Crafted World” Exhibition in Tokyo; learn the brand’s evolution from an 1846 leather craft cooperative founded in Madrid to becoming one of the most sought after and talked about international luxury fashion brands. The exhibit will include original pieces from the brand’s archive to looks from recent collections by Creative Director Jonathan Anderson.
The exhibition promises to transport visitors to the sights and sounds of Spain and the front row of the Paris runway. It will also include runway footage and behind-the-scenes insights that look into the processes and artisanal craftsmanship behind collections, as well as some iconic looks such as Beyoncé’s trompe l’oeil body suit worn during the Renaissance World Tour and Taylor Russell’s 2024 Met Gala wooden bodice gown.
Where Spain Meets Japan
In 1973, LOEWE opened its store in Japan, its first store outside Europe. The “Crafted World” Exhibition in Tokyo celebrates the brand’s more than 50 years of cultural connection to Japan.
It will feature interactive rooms that showcase some of LOEWE’s recent inspiration for their work, including their recent collaboration with Studio Ghibli and Suna Fujita, a Kyoto-based ceramic studio.
The Japan stop of the exhibition will also include a curation of works and architectural concepts, showcasing the brand’s creative cultural exchange with the country throughout the years.
It includes a film that introduces the Ōnishi family, who the LOEWE Foundation has supported with the craft of making ceremonial Kama tea pots in Kyoto for over 400 years.
The exhibit will also feature works from previous LOEWE Craft Award nominees Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, Moe Watanabe and 2019 Craft Award winner Genta Ishizuka. Furthermore, it displays works by local artists including ARKO, Hafu Matsumoto and Jirō Yonezawa.
LOEWE “Crafted World” in Tokyo will be open – free admission- from March 29 to May 11, 2025, from 9 am to 8 pm.
