Babae sa Septic Tank 4 takes the series to its most exciting territory yet. It started as an indie film, the film series then found mainstream success. Now it is taking over live theater and the jump feels like the most natural and exciting one yet.
Chris Martinez, the sharp Filipino screenwriter behind all three previous entries, returns to write. Maribel Legarda, PETA’s longtime artistic director and one of the most respected names in Philippine theater, steps in to direct. Marlon Rivera joins the cast playing a fictionalized version of himself as the director within the play.
Eugene Domingo returns to the Septic Tank universe leading the cast alongside Meann Espinosa, Stella Cañete-Mendoza, Andoy Ranay, JC Santos, Melvin Lee and Joshua Lim So. The Series That Always Gets It Right
The first Ang Babae sa Septic Tank film launched at the 2011 Cinemalaya Film Festival. It followed three passionate young filmmakers chasing international recognition. Eugene Domingo played herself as their unstoppable lead actress. The film was a homage/satire of the Filipino independent film scene, featuring tropes from notable indie movies of the time, wrapped in brilliant comedy.
It earned a spot as the country’s official Academy Awards entry for Best Foreign Language Film and was screened at festivals in Vancouver, Pusan, Hawaii, Tokyo, and the Far East. It also became the highest-grossing Filipino independent film of its time.

The sequel turned its playful spotlight on mainstream cinema, with Domingo’s character making her “commercial” comeback film.
